Tutoring/Homework Assistant, Hollywood

My name is Shayla Brown and I am currently one the GED Tutors and Homework Assistant staff members working in the Education Department for the Seminole Tribe of Florida.  I have always adored working with children and have done so for a number of years.  I find it both exciting and rewarding.  In fact, I cannot imagine any other profession that would bring me such joy!  I even volunteer my time working in the Nursery, Youth Department and Dance Team at my church.  My educational background is in Psychology, but in terms of my philosophy of education, I am dedicated to working hard to help students find their strengths and build upon those strengths to reach their highest potential.

I am here to offer assistance in any way that I possibly can and believe in creating a positive learning environment that facilitates thinking, where students feel safe to push themselves, engage their minds, encourage risk and cultivate dreams.  I love seeing that "light bulb" moment when students grasp a difficult concept.  I believe that all children are capable and have a desire to learn.  I let children know that I want them to always do their PERSONAL BEST!   

I take immense pride in building relationships and having a good report with the students and families I am fortunate to work with.  I, myself am the mother of a little girl; so I understand firsthand the joys and challenges that come from navigating the Educational System; and communicate, educate and guide my students in the same manner I would want for my own daughter. 

I believe that each student is a unique lantern awaiting a spark to ignite their natural passion for learning. As an educator, I believe it is my responsibility to spark the flame of knowledge that will illuminate their future.

During my free time, I enjoy watching movies, listening to music, eating good food and appreciating great company.
