My name is Kathleen “Kathy” Meaney and I have been tutoring for close to 15 years at the Immokalee Reservation. I had the opportunity of working in the after-school program, and now I am a GED Tutor/Homework Assistant. In 2018, I received my Doctorate in Educational Psychology. Therefore, I consider myself a lifelong learner and I’m always looking for new ways to challenge my students to communicate, collaborate, create, and think critically! I believe that children are a gift and possess diverse talents and capabilities. I consider it a privilege to help facilitate their learning and academic growth. I believe students learn in their own way and style. I strive to provide a safe and nurturing environment where each student can have the opportunity to experience success and progress. It is my goal to help encourage each child to look beyond the four walls of our Tutoring classroom and view the world around them as a place of learning and discovery. By doing this, I hope to instill in them a desire to become lifelong learners as well.
Prior to working at the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s Education Department, I taught in Boston for 25 years. I must say, I really enjoy working in Immokalee. I am truly thankful to have such a fulfilling and rewarding career that allows me to share my passions for learning and teaching. I look forward to working with and getting to know each of your children.
On a personal side, I have three delightful grandkids. My granddaughter is the light of my life. Also, twin grandsons who are around twenty-five years old. All of my grandkids take after me and have a love of music. In fact, the twins recently graduated from college with a degree in Music. I was fortunate to be able to take formal piano lessons for over ten years and have had the privilege of seeing over ten Broadway plays. If I have five spare minutes to myself, you will see me reading a book. I also love to cook and believe if you can read you can also cook.
